Program
The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition program is a supplemental food program for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum women and to children under five years of age who are at nutritional risk.

Goals
The goal of WIC is to improve nutritional health of participants. To meet this goal, the WIC program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, medical care referrals and nutritious foods that are high in protein and iron. Foods provided to participants may include:
milk cheese
eggs cereal
tuna carrots
infant formula juice
peanut butter or beans

Eligibility
WIC is available to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum women and to children under five years old who are at or below 185% of the federal poverty level and are at nutritional risk.

Breastfeeding Assistance
The Webster County Health Unit has two well-trained, knowledgeable Peer Counselors on staff to assist with breastfeeding questions and basic breastfeeding difficulties at no cost to the participant through the through the WIC/Healthy Embrace Lactation Program.

Manual and mini-electric breast pumps are available to clients at no cost. Hospital-grade electric breast pumps are available with a $5.00 deposit, refundable when the pump is returned.

Mothers and mothers-to-be who are breastfeeding or considering breastfeeding are invited to attend monthly "Snack-n-Yack" meetings. Mothers support each other and talk about what to expect from the breastfeeding experience. Snack-n-Yack meets the third Tuesday of each month from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Marshfield library.
